He listens to your litany of what they said. The hurtful, mean, cruel words that shouldn’t bother you but they do. His jaw gets tighter and his eyes get colder.
When you realise that he’s really upset, your voice falters and you stop.
"I’m sorry. I should probably just ignore them. It just -"
He stops you. “Who said it? No one should ever say things like that and they sure as hell shouldn’t say them to you.”
His eyes are blazing now. Wrapping his arms around you, he murmurs into your hair. “You are wonderful. Anyone who gets to be be part of your life? Lucky bastards.”
You look up at him, eyes hooded. He smiles at you. “The assholes who tried to make you feel like less? Don’t let them bother you.”
He holds you tighter. “And tomorrow, I’m kicking their asses.”
